모든 학생들의 최대의 관심사는  자신이 어떻게 준비해야 명문 대학에 들어 갈 수 있을까 하는 것입니다. 좋은 대학에 들어가기 위해서는 무엇보다도 학업에 충실해야 합니다. 높은 내신 성적은 대입 때 가장 중요한 입학요건 중 하나인데 보통 9, 10, 11학년 성적을 말하며 특히, 11학년말 성적이 좋아야 합니다. 대학의 Admission Committee는 학생이 고등학교 4년 동안 성적이 꾸준히 향상되고 대학에서 공부하는 내용을 고등학교에서 미리 배우는 프로그램인 AP-과목을 많이 선택한 학생을 선호합니다.

좋은 대학에 들어가려면 11학년이나 12학년 때 쉬운 과목을 수강하여 성적을 잘 받아도 입학사정에 감점요인이 될 수 있습니다. 따라서 Calculus, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Macroeconomics/Microeconomics, Statistics, U.S. History, World History, English Literature, Computer Science, Environmental Science 등 대학학점을 취득할 수 있는 AP과정을 가능한 미리 많이 택하여 수강해야 하며 AP과목의 성적이 높으면 GPA 성적이 한 단계 Up Grade 되므로 대학입학에 중요한 자료입니다. 여러 미국 고등학교에서  우수  학생들을  대상으로  정규  수업시간에  AP  또는  IB ( AP와  비슷한  4년제  선행학습  프로그램)을 운영하고 있습니다. 명문대 입학을 위해서는 일반적으로 4~5과목을 택해야 하며, 많이 택하는 학생 중에는 8개 이상의 AP-과목을 택하는 경우도 흔히 있습니다. AP-과목을 택함으로써 얻는 이점 중 하나는 미 대학 측에서 입학 사정을 할 때 평점을 4.0 만점이 아닌 5.0 만점으로 계산하기 때문에 AP-과목을 많이 선택한 학생일수록 4.0 이상의 높은 평점으로 원하는 대학으로의 입학 가능성을 높일 수 있다는 것입니다.

AP 시험은 일반적으로 학년말  5월 중에 실시하는데, 일반적으로 객관식 50%, 서술형주관식(작문 또는 서술형 풀이) 50%로 구성되어 있으며 과목당 시험시간은  3~4  시간  정도입니다.  5점 만점에 3점 이상을 받음 으로써 합격을 인정받으나 한국과 같이 AP과목이 고등학교에서 제공되지 않는 특수한 상황에서는 개개인이나 학원을 통하여 AP시험을 준비함으로써 고등학교에서 과목을 이수하지 않아도 시험을 볼 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있습니다.

AP는 온라인상으로 신청할 수 없으며, AP를 주관하는 고등학교로 직접 신청해야 합니다. 현재 우리나라에서는 서울국제학교  (SIS),  서울외국인학교  (SFS),  한영외국어고등학교, 민족사관고등학교 등에서  실시하고  있습니다. www.collegeboard.com 에 AP의 각 과목과 시험일정 그리고 주관식 문제들이 공개되어 있으니 참조하시길 바랍니다.

점수는 6월 중순에서 7월중에 학생과 학생의 고등학교 그리고 지정해준 각 대학에 Report가 발송됩니다. 일반적으로 접수마감일은 3월중이나 매해 날짜가 바뀌므로 미국 college board.com 홈페이지에서 정확한 날짜를 알아보는 것이 바람직합니다.

Thirty-eight AP courses in a wide variety of 20 subject areas are available now or are under development. A committee of college faculty and master AP teachers designs each AP course to cover the information, skills, and assignments found in the corresponding college course.  AP courses.
 

Each AP course has a corresponding exam that participating schools worldwide

administer in May. AP Exams contain Multiple-Choice questions and a free- response section (either essay or problem solving).

Studio Art: Last day for your school to submit digital portfolios and to gather 2-D Design and Drawing students for the physical portfolio assembly. Students should have forwarded their completed digital portfolios to their teachers well before this date.

Please note:

• Coordinators are responsible for notifying students when and where to report for the exams. Early testing or testing at times other than those published by the College Board is not permitted under any circumstances.

• Coordinators should order alternate (late-testing) exams for students who would like to take exams that are scheduled for the same time.

• AP Seminar End-of-Course Exams are only available to students at schools participating in the AP Capstone Diploma program.

The multiple-choice section of the exam is graded by computer. The free-response booklets are graded by faculty consultants. These are college professors and AP teachers who are specially trained to assess the questions. Usually about six faculty consultants review each free-response booklet. Overall, approximately two-thirds of all AP test takers receive AP grades of at least 3. This grade is regarded as an indicator of an ability to do successful work at most colleges.

AP Grade Reports are sent in July to each student's home, high school, and any colleges designated by the student. Students may designate the colleges they would like to receive their grade on the answer sheet at the time of the test. Students may also contact AP Services to forward their grade to other colleges after the exam, or to cancel or withhold a grade.
